George Cottage Renovation 2009

Below are a selection of photographs showing the 'before' and 'during' stages of the renovation of George Cottage in 2009. As you can see from the 'before' photographs, George Cottage was not only very dated but had terrible layout and structural problems so we had little choice but to strip the building back to its bare fabric and start again. Thankfully there weren't any architectural gems so we considered that we were saving the cottage from destruction.

Working with Matt (from Word of Mouth Carpentry) the cottage was completely renovated. Internal walls were moved (originally you had to pass through the single bedroom to get to the bathroom so we had to make a landing) and parts were rebuilt (the bathroom was damp as it had been built using brick and wood, the wood had rotted over time meaning bowing walls!).

Eventually, after replastering the walls, new electrics (including moving the meter), new plumbing, new flooring, new bathroom, new kitchen, new fire, new doors, Matt finished the cottage with handmade sash windows and some handmade oak pieces. I painted and then re-furnished the cottage from scratch (comfortable beds, good tv's, quality appliances) and though completely renovated, George Cottage has a lot of charm and character. We very much hope you enjoy your stay! Alex & Ariadna
